Ask me about my current Julie and the Phantoms WIP

I’ve been writing, but not really publishing anything this summer since I want to start posting stories once they are complete. That being said, I currently have several WIPs that I’m open to sharing little snippets of if any of you are interested in!

  • Home is Where My Horse Is (Next part is coming! I’m just waiting to post until I have more of the second half finished.)
  • JATP foster care fic 1 (The Molina’s are fostering Alex, Luke and Stevie Peters. Luke is about to go back home to his parents, and Ray and Rose agreed to not accept anymore placements while they helped Alex go through TPR. What happens when Chad Danforth begs them to take in a hard to place teen, one who Ray swore looked familiar when meeting him at a foster care match event.)
  • Together I Think That We Can Make It (Reggie is a foster kid with cancer.)
  • Both Sides Now (Reggie Cinderella AU)
  • Boarding School AU

Let me know what you’d like to read snippets of!

@dollypartons95theses- REGGIE CINDERELLA AU this sounds amazing!

Sorry for the late relpy. Tumblr wouldn’t let me post it on Monday and then my mom got sick and had to go to the ER and that was scary. But here you go!

I have a lot of plans for this fic, and eventually I want to turn it into an actual novel or screenplay. It’s a found family Cinderella story that focuses on how hard it is to get out of an abusive household.

The ships are Willex, Rulie, Boggie, and Ray and Willie’s mom!

Compared to North Hollywood, Los Feliz was a dream. There were no metal detectors, the class sizes were smaller, he got free one on one music lessons once a week during study hall, the media center had dozens of new computers students could use to get their work done, and Reggie hadn’t heard about any suspicious activity, then again it was the first day.

Reggie was pretty sure no one was going to want to be his friend, but he was used to that. Who would want to be friends with the poor kid whose entire family abandoned him?

Reggie’s first four blocks were fine. Los Feliz was on a block schedule, so normally he only had four classes to go to each day, but today he had to go to all eight and go over the syllabus. He did know for sure he would be getting a lot more homework than he would at North Hollywood. But this was worth it. This could be his only chance to get a decent education before Caleb kicks him out on his 18th birthday. He was going to make every second count.

During Lunch, Reggie chose to sit alone in the back of the cafeteria reading Jane Eyre. He had read it over the summer, but he also had a guided reading discussion next Friday, and he needed to make sure he was prepared. He didn’t get very far into reading before he heard a familiar voice.

“Reggie?” A voice asked across the cafeteria.

Reggie looked up from his book, and his face immediately paled. Caleb was going to murder him.

“I didn’t know you went here,” Willie said, taking a seat next to Reggie. He pulled his long black hair up into a messy bun and started to squirt ketchup all over his chicken sandwich.

“I-I got a scholarship,” Reggie said nervously.

“Full ride?” Willie asked, taking a bite out of his chicken sandwich.

Reggie nodded his head slowly and started to put away his book now that he knew Willie was planning on staying for lunch.

“You’re so lucky,” Willie said with a sigh. “Caleb is being a pompous ass and is insisting he pay my full tuition.”

“Why?” Reggie asked with a small giggle.

“I don’t know,” Willie sighed. “Something about not wanting the press to find out about him not treating all of his kids equally or some bullshit.”

Reggie gave a small smile knowing that Willie hated his dad as much as he did.

“It’s so stupid, though, because my stepdad’s family are like huge donors, and they were going to wave my tuition.”

“Stepdad?” Reggie asked.

“Yeah, my mom got married over the summer,” he said casually. “My stepdad is great, he’s a photographer, and he has two kids who are not complete assholes like Claire and Crosby.”

“So why are you and your mom coming over for dinner tonight?”

Willie groaned and put his head down on the table.

“It’s going to be torture,” he said as he lifted his head slightly. “My mom failed to get full custody of me, so now Friday night dinners are mandatory, and he wants me to come along to any red carpet event he has. Are you working tonight?”

“Yeah, I’m working all night,” Reggie said with a small shrug. “Once I finish at your dad’s, then I’m off to wash dishes all night at the Club. I live a glamorous life.”

“Jesus, that sucks,” Willie said, slightly disappointed. “I got a job at this art supply store downtown, and I swear I barely have enough time to do anything fun.”

“Like vandalism?” Reggie smirked.

“I was only doing that to piss off Caleb,” he said, rolling his eyes. “He was trying to make me go to Milan with them for fashion week, and you know how much he cares about his pristine image.”

“Yeah… about that, c-can you not tell your dad I go here?” Reggie said, biting his lip. “He thinks I go to some crappy school in North Hollywood, and I don’t want him knowing I transferred.”

“Why don’t you want him to know you’re here?” Willie asked, taking a bite of his sandwich.

“Because he doesn’t want his servant getting a high-quality education,” Reggie said sarcastically, hiding the actual truth in his statement.

“You’re not his servant,” he said, rolling his eyes.

“Have you seen the uniform your dad makes me wear?” Reggie said.

Willie immediately started to get flashbacks of a 13-year-old Reggie in a black tuxedo with white gloves holding a tray as he served them dinner. He and his mom were a bit shocked when they first spotted him in his new uniform during dinner. They had seen glimpses of him doing dishes or mopping the floor, but it had never been that extreme.

After that, Hana tried to limit Willie’s contact with Caleb. The 14-year-old already didn’t like spending time with his dad, so they tried to come up with just about any excuse to avoid contact with Caleb.

“Well, if you manage to get off early tonight, I have an extra ticket for the back-to-school fundraiser at Center Park,” he said with a small smile. “There’s going to be live music, rides, and a ton of carnival games. It should be really fun.”

“I’m not getting off early,” Reggie shrugged. “A new band is playing tonight, so I’ll be busy mopping spills and scrubbing dishes.”

“Well, at least you’ll get a decent paycheck,” Willie said with a smile.

Reggie gave a small smile and tried to think of a way out of this situation.

“There you are,” An afro-Latina girl with big brown eyes and long curly hair said as she took a seat next to Willie. “I thought we were going to eat outside?”

“Sorry,” Willie said with a small smile. “This is my friend, Reggie. He, unfortunately, works for Caleb. Reggie, this is my new sister Julie. Her friend Flynn should be joining us soon.”

Reggie immediately perked up when Willie called him his friend. Willie didn’t actually consider him a friend, right? Probably not; Willie most likely just didn’t want to introduce him as his dad’s servant, that’s all.

“I’ll text Flynn and have her meet us here,” Julie said, pulling out her phone.

“Perfect,” Willie said with a smile as he popped a tater-tot in his mouth.

“You guys don’t have to eat with me,” Reggie said nervously. “I’ll be fine if you guys want to eat lunch outside.

“Don’t worry about it,” Julie said, pulling out a teal bento box. She gave a big smile seeing her sandwich cut up in the shape of a flower. Julie took a bite out of one of the flower’s petals and then frowned when she noticed Reggie wasn’t eating.

“Aren’t you hungry?” Julie asked.

“I uh… I had a big breakfast,” Reggie lied as his stomach growled.

The truth is Caleb started locking the fridge when he wasn’t cooking the family’s individual meals or putting away groceries. He pretty much only got food these days during his shift at work.

The club was closed last night.

“Here,” Julie said, pulling a sandwich out of her book bag. “I have dance next period, and my dad packed it for me in case I needed a snack or something.”

“I can’t take that,” Reggie said, pushing the sandwich towards Julie.

“No, really, it’s fine,” Julie said, pushing the sandwich toward him. “Trust me, I’m not going to eat it.”

“It’s not peanut butter, is it?” Reggie asked, biting his lip.

“Sorry,” Julie said, taking the sandwich back.

“Wait, since when are you allergic to peanuts?” Willie asked.

“Since I was like four.”

“But you put peanut sauce in the pad thai you make whenever me and my mom come over,” Willie said, kind of shocked.

“The smell doesn’t cause a reaction,” Reggie said. “As long as I don’t consume peanuts, then I’m fine. Besides, your dad doesn’t like me eating while I’m on the clock.”

“Yeah, well, my dad’s a dick,” he said grumpily. “I don’t know why you work for that douchebag? He treats you like shit.”

Reggie shrugged his shoulders, hoping to change the conversation. What was he supposed to say to that? He couldn’t quit or stop working for Caleb because he knew that the moment he did, he would get kicked out and become homeless or put in the foster care system, where he’d most likely be placed with families who only wanted to use him as a maid or take him in for the paycheck.

@interestinglittlerelationship- I’d love to hear so much of together we think that we can make it. The first snippet you shared a while ago took my brain hostage for days.

Okay, so This one is a bit different from the original snippet I posted, because Caleb is no longer Reggie’s foster dad. I made this a good dad Caleb fic, because I have sweet and sad plans for Caleb and Willie.

Reggie yawned as he sat in his hospital bed waiting for or a nurse to come back with his test results. It felt like hours  before his nurse from came over holding a clipboard and he had absolutely nothing to do.
“So Dr. Donner, one of our on-call hematologists wants us to admit you overnight so we can run a few more tests,” he said giving him a gentle smile. “I called your caseworker and he said he said that one of the employees at the group home will be down here within the hour.”
“What kind of tests are you guys running?” Reggie asked, slightly concerned.
The nurse sighed and looked down at his clipboard. The nurse knew he probably shouldn’t share what was going on without an adult present, but he had a gut feeling Reggie’s current caregivers couldn’t care less since nobody has yet to show up for the poor kid.
“Your white blood cell count was unusually high and Dr. Donner thinks you may have Leukemia,” the nurse said gently. “He wants to do a bone marrow biopsy first thing tomorrow to confirm and figure out which type of Leukemia you have and how much it’s progressed.”
Reggie looked at her in shock. “I-I have cancer?”
“I’m sorry,” he said with a small smile.
“I-I can’t afford to go through treatment though. There’s nobody is going to pay for,” Reggie said, tearing up. “I’m gonna die.”
“The state and Medicaid should cover the cost of everything,” Reggie’s nurse said shaking his head, “If you want treatment then you will get treatment.”
Reggie nodded his head and started to process the information that was given to him. He couldn’t believe his luck. Not only was he an unwanted foster kid, but he now had cancer. He was positive the universe was out to get him.
“Is there anything I can get you to pass the time until everyone gets here?” he asked, hoping she could lighten the air a bit. “Normally kids come in here and they just scroll on their phone or tablets, but I’m guessing you don’t have one?”
Reggie shook his head.
“Okay,” the nurse said nodding his head. “Well if you want I can grab one of the tablets from the surgery department and you can watch a movie until they move you to an actual room with a tv or I can bring you a coloring book and some crayons?”
“What’s on the iPad?” he asked, biting his lip.
“It’s Disney+, I’m pretty sure we have just about every Disney princess movie downloaded,” he said with a small smile.
“So I’m guessing you guys don’t have Star Wars?” Reggie asked not feeling like watching a Disney princess movie.
“I’ll see what I can do,” he said with a smile.
“Can I watch a movie on the iPad and color?” Reggie asked, batting his eyes.

Anything else from the foster au that you're willing to share? I'm a sucker for foster care fics and I can't wait until this gets posted!

innytoes:

I can’t wait to post it though right now I’d settle for ‘stop adding more chapters, me’.

I too am a sucker for Foster Care AUs and also Best Dad Ray Molina, so here’s some Ray being a good (foster) dad, a snippet where Ray wonders if Reggie is maybe more of an auditory learner after he flunked a test he studied hard for:

“How about for your next test, I read the chapters out loud for you?” Ray suggested. “And we’ll see if that makes any difference.”

“I don’t want to waste your time,” Reggie said. That sounded like a lot of work, and Ray had his own kids to worry about, and his job, and fending off Aunt Victoria’s comments about how they were eating spaghetti again by making macaroni instead.

“It’s not time wasted if I’m hanging out with you,” Ray said, giving him a smile. “Let’s give it a try, and see if it helps, alright? If not, we’ll try something else.”

The tears that prickled at the edges of Reggie’s eyes weren’t in frustration this time. “Okay,” he agreed.

@phantomwriter95-I’d love to see a snippet from JATP foster care fic 1! I’m a sucker for those kind of fics ☺️😅

Okay, so here’s a chaotic Saturday morning with the Molinas.

“Carlos, Stevie, let’s go!” Rose yelled as she finished putting two microwaved breakfast sandwiches on paper plates for the boys.

Stevie immediately came running down the stairs in his baseball uniform and sat down at the kitchen table.

“Where’s Carlos?” she asked, setting the plate in front of Stevie.

“I think he’s still in the bathroom,” Stevie said with a mouth full of food. “Julie went in there after me and started to get in the shower.”

Rose gave a giant sigh, and she started to rub her temples. She didn’t have time for this today. Carlos and Stevie had their final baseball tournament this morning, Ray was taking photos at the Foster Care Fun Fest at the park, Alex had group therapy and a drum lesson, and she was training a new barista at Eats & Beats. It was going to be a long day.

“Come on, Carlos! ¡Ándele!” Rose yelled as Carlos finally started to come down the stairs, followed by Julie with her hair in a ponytail and Alex putting his inhaler in his fanny pack.

“It was Julie’s fault,” Carlos said grumpily. “I swear she was in the bathroom for 30 minutes.

“I was in the bathroom for 15 minutes,” Julie said, rolling her eyes. “Did papí leave yet? I was wondering if I could go with him to the park?”

“Yeah, he left half an hour ago,” Rose said, slightly confused.

“Why do you want to go to a foster care fun fest?” Alex asked, grabbing an apple from the table.

“I need community service hours for Confirmation, and Nick said I could help him serve lunch,” Julie said with a smile.

“I thought you finished your hours after you helped with the church bake sale last month?” Rose asked, almost positive that her daughter had met all of her Confirmation requirements.

“That was my church service; I just need four more community hours,” Julie said with a smile.

“Oh please, you just want to hang out with Nick all day,” Carlos teased.

“Shut up!” Julie snapped back. “Besides, he’s just got back together with Carrie, so there’s no way we’ll actually ever be a thing.”

“And Luke moves out in a week… so I mean technically…” Alex added.

“Can we please stop talking about my love life? Thank you very much!” Julie huffed.

“When do you think you’ll be done? I need to be at Eats & Beats by noon,” Rose asked as she started to grab two cuties so both Stevie and Carlos would have some fruit in their system before their game.

“We should be done around two, but I’m tutoring at Eats & Beats around three, and Nick said he’d drop me off on his way home,” Julie said.

“Wait, is someone actually going to pay your ridiculous $ 65-an-hour rate?” Alex laughed.

“Yeah,” Julie said.

“Did they rob a bank or somthing?” Alex asked sarcastically. His face then paled as he turned to Julie. “Dante’s not asking for your help right? Because I’ve told him a thousand times that I have a boyfriend and to stay away from you.”

“It’s not Dante,” Julie said, calming Alex down. “Trust me, Dante’s mom would never pay $65 for a tutor that’s still in high school. It’s a sophomore who transferred in last month, but if he can pay that much for a tutor then he’s probably rich.”

“Remember, rich doesn’t always mean asshole,” Alex said, gently. “I mean, Nick’s rich and he’s not an asshole.”

“Yeah, but he’s dating Carrie and she is,” Julie retorted.

Rose glanced at her watch, and her eyes widened in horror.

“We need to leave now,” she said, ushering everyone out the door.

“I’m coming with,” Alex said with a smile.

“Why are you coming?” Rose asked.

“Chad is insisting that Willie get a new foster family, so we’re gonna make out on the steps to deter any homophobes,” Alex said.

“Wow, you guys are so brave,” Stevie said sarcastically.

“Shut up,” Alex said, rolling his eyes as he shoved his younger foster brother’s shoulder.

“You are voluntarily going to make out with your boyfriend in public?” Rose asked, kind of shocked.

“Anything to piss off the conservatives,” he said with a nervous smile.

“Okay…” Rose said skeptically, knowing that there was definitely more to unpack there, but she didn’t have enough time. “What about Luke?

“Luke’s still in bed. But he did tell me he was going to start packing up his side of the room, but I don’t know if he’ll actually follow through with that plan,” Alex said.

“Perfect! Then I guess Luke will be on babysitting duty until Dad gets home,” Rose said, taking a deep breath.

“Ooooh, Luke’s gonna love that,” Carlos teased as he ate the last bite of his breakfast sandwich.

Alex rolled his eyes and took a bite out of his apple. Normally he would be all for teasing Luke about his disdain for babysitting, but his best friend was moving back in with his parents next week, and he would rather not have Luke be in a sour mood, even if he couldn’t hear him.

“Okay, guys, we have a really busy today, and I need to get to Eats & Beats by noon to train a new barista. So, let’s get in the car and head out,” Rose said, ushering Carlos, Stevie, Julie, and Alex out of the house and into her minivan.

Luckily the boy’s baseball tournament was right next to the park the Fun Fest was being held, so dropping Alex and Julie off wouldn’t be too much of a hassle. Usually, she and Ray would carpool when they were practically going to the same destination, but there was a good chance the boys wouldn’t advance in the tournament, and Ray was supposed to be taking pictures until three.

“Behave, please,” Rose said as she parked the car in the parking lot. Julie immediately got out of the car, not wanting to hear a word of her mom’s nagging. “I‘ll text you when the game’s over, and then we’ll head to your drum lesson.”

“Okay,” Alex said as he got out of the car and put his fanny pack over his head.

“Make sure that you can hear your phone and be smart,” she continued. “I don’t want another phone call claiming that you and Willie broke into some abandoned museum again.”

“That was one time!” Alex said with a small laugh. “Don’t worry; we’re staying at the park. Willie’s current foster parents aren’t the best, so he’s really hoping he can get matched with a new placement.”

“We can take him in if he wants,” Rose said in a softer tone. “With Luke moving out next Saturday, we’ll have an extra bed available.”

“Yeah… I’d rather not date my foster brother. I feel like that would be a conflict of interest,” Alex said.

“It would be really weird,” Stevie said with a big smile.

“You see, he gets it,” Alex said, nodding his head.

“Guys, go ahead and head to the field. I’ll meet up with you in a couple of minutes,” Rose said, ushering Stevie and Carlos away so she and Alex could have a more serious conversation.

“Okay, what’s really going on with Willie?” Rose asked, crossing her arms once she knew that Carolos and Stevie were out of earshot. “You hate PDA.”

“I do not,” Alex argued.

“Really? Because just last week, you refused to let Willie kiss you on the cheek after dinner,” Rose said, rolling her eyes.

“We were in a dodgy neighborhood,” Alex said.

“We were at a lesbian-owned Mexican restaurant, and there was a gay bar across the street,” Rose said, seeing right through Alex’s lie. “Truth, now.”

“His foster parents caught us making out last week, and they were really pissed,” Alex said, taking a deep breath. “They gave their two weeks’ notice, and Willie has to be out next week.”

“They didn’t hurt you guys, right?” Rose asked, concerned.

“No,” Alex said, shaking his head. “I mean… they called us fags, but it’s not like I haven’t been called that before.”

“Oh, mijo,” Rose said, pulling Alex in for a hug. “Why didn’t you tell us that happened.”

“I don’t know,” Alex said, fiddling with the zipper on his fanny pack. “I just didn’t want to bug you guys with my gay shit.”

“Alex, we want you to bug us with your gay shit,” Rose said sweetly. “We want you to come to us with any issues you have, whether they’re gay or not.”

“Thank you, I’ll keep that in mind,” Alex said with a smile. “I should probably go ahead and find Willie, though. From what I’ve heard, these events pretty much suck unless you’re Stevie’s age.”

“Okay, well, let him know my offer still stands if he wants to come and stay with us for a few weeks,” Rose said with a small smile. “We can at least foster him through the holidays. You would have to share a room with Stevie, though.”

“No. I’m vetoing this whole idea,” Alex said, shaking his head. “You guys are incapable of displacing foster kids. I mean, Stevie was supposed to be here for a week, and it’s been almost two years now. He’s calling you guys mom and dad.”

“Just go make out with your boyfriend,” Rose said, rolling her eyes.

Alex gave a small smile as he turned around and started to walk towards the park. He knew he would still bring up Rose’s offer to foster him, but he also knew that Willie wouldn’t accept it. Foster siblings weren’t allowed to date, and even though Willie needed a family, he would rather have the Molinas as in-laws instead.

Hehehe I always want to know more about your foster care au, thank youuuu!!!

innytoes:

It keeps getting LONGER. Like, I started with I think… 21 chapters? And now it’s up to 35, because I keep adding chapters, or because chapters are waaaay to long compared to the rest so I split them up, or I realise a single sentence in my planning is gonna balloon into a whole chapter.

Also have some Willie being Willie, as a treat:

“I’ll drive you,” Ray said, handing something – his credit card – over to Julie. “If I’m not back after you’ve all had grilled cheeses, Willie’s in charge of getting you home.”

“It’s cool Ray,” Willie said. “I got this, I’ve been driving my siblings to school since I was fourteen.”

Somehow this was not comforting to Ray, and he paused. “Actually, you’re all to stay here until I get back and Flynn is in charge.”

Foster Care AUs plural? 👀

innytoes:

Lol I feel bad because that was totally bait, but what really happened is my word doc crashed and I had to give the ‘autosave’ document a different name than the original so I just added a random letter.

I’m not writing the second foster care au idea I had I am NOT

Have some Julie and the himbo shenanigans. Reggie just came back from court with Ray, where his dad’s parental rights were dissolved because he’s and Evil Dickbag Who Hit His Kid.

Behind him, Ray hung up his coat and looked over to the other guys, who were hovering. “You boys staying for dinner?” he asked.

“Uuum,” the guys said, in various pitches, a sure sign they were Up To Something. Reggie pulled back and saw several backpacks dotted around the place.

“Julie said we could sleep over,” Luke said in a rush. Julie, who was half-hidden behind Alex, went wide-eyed at being thrown under the bus.

“We were going to ease him into it,” she hissed. Reggie, who knew Ray was a complete pushover when it came to them having friends over anyway, looked at him with big sad eyes.
